Who Is Teacherman?

Introducing Mr. Richard Schenck

Richard Schenck, AKA "Teacherman" is the creator of the High Level Pattern baseball swing mechanics.

If you're ready to swing at release, and if you can control that readiness until the ball appears…. you'll have launch quickness.

In the world of baseball, where every swing and every move can make a difference, Richard Schenck—better known as TEACHERMAN or “Snapman”—stands out as a remarkable paradox.

At 64 years old, Schenck, the former owner of Teachers Billiards in St. Charles, is making waves as a swing guru for some of baseball’s biggest stars, despite never playing beyond Division Two. His journey from a father of three to a sought-after baseball swing instructor is a story of unexpected success and dedication.

Schenck’s journey into the realm of baseball swing mechanics began in 2004. What started as a personal quest to improve his sons’ hitting techniques transformed into a deep dive into the science of the perfect swing.

Spending two and a half years in his basement, Schenck meticulously compared his swing to that of Barry Bonds, one of the greatest hitters in baseball history. He would record his own swings, analyze the footage, and refine his technique by spotting differences between his swing and Bonds’s. This relentless pursuit of perfection bore fruit, as his sons began hitting balls over the outfield wall with increased frequency and power.

As Schenck’s sons excelled, his expertise caught the attention of David Matranga, a former minor leaguer turned agent. Matranga, who had seen tremendous improvement under Schenck’s guidance, recognized the value in his unique approach.

Matranga’s star client was Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees outfielder who would go on to have a breakout year in 2017. Judge, who struggled with strikeouts early in his career, credited Schenck with helping him refine his swing and improve his contact, which contributed significantly to his impressive rookie season.

Judge’s turnaround is a testament to Schenck’s innovative techniques. By teaching players to get their barrel up to speed more quickly, Schenck has helped many professional hitters enhance their performance. His methods have even attracted the attention of retired stars like Manny Ramirez, who sought out Schenck for a swing session in St. Charles. The impact of Schenck’s teachings extends beyond individual success stories; his approach is considered transformative by those who have worked with him.

Despite never stepping onto a professional field as a player, Schenck has established himself as a respected swing scientist. His unconventional career trajectory is marked by a blend of passion, perseverance, and an unparalleled understanding of swing mechanics. Schenck’s influence on the game is a testament to his dedication and expertise, as he continues to make significant contributions to the sport he loves.

For Schenck, the most rewarding part of his work is witnessing the moment when a hitter has an “aha” moment—when they finally understand and execute a swing perfectly. This moment of clarity not only improves their game but also brings a profound sense of accomplishment and joy to Schenck. His ability to teach and inspire is a reflection of his deep knowledge and commitment to the craft of hitting.

In an industry where credentials often define success, Richard Schenck’s story challenges conventional expectations. His achievements demonstrate that passion, hard work, and a keen eye for detail can lead to extraordinary outcomes.

As he continues to work with some of baseball’s finest, Schenck remains a beacon of innovation and excellence, proving that sometimes the greatest lessons come from the most unexpected sources.
